Our Philosophy

Who We Are

Established in 2001, Square Feet Studio, Inc. is an architecture, planning and design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. As our name suggests, we focus on space. Square feet are, of course, a unit of measure. They are fundamental to create common ground for discussing architectural ideas. A studio, by definition, is an environment where ideas are freely exchanged to create thoughtful, studied constructions. We combined these to make square feet studio, a place where we practice a design ethic of collaborative creativity balanced by the requirements of real space, programs and expectations.

What We Believe

We believe in making every square foot of our designs smart, simple and sustainable: smart by using resources to minimize the impact of our work on the environment and maximize its benefit for future generations, simple through sound design solutions that allow for complex and flexible arrangements, and sustainable through a design process that insures our clients like the results and maintain them for a long time.

How We Work

We develop projects in a collaborative manner with input from key sources. Our first step is to investigate requirements, precedents and goals thoroughly. We ask questions and delve into all aspects of a project. Then we document our findings in a cohesive design. Finally we lead our team through the process of realizing the common vision we’ve developed. This involves managing contractors, working with vendors and craftsmen, handling contingencies and assisting with budget priorities. We are a small firm with an experienced staff who communicate and act quickly and decisively throughout a project’s duration. We value a close working relationship with our clients to produce architecture that is personal and focused.

Our Community

We work with our clients, but we work for our community. Through our involvement in the 1% Solution,
we dedicate one percent of our time to pro bono work. We support this public architecture program because everyone benefits from good design. One such project is the renovation of the Georgia Tech Wesley Foundation.
